Fishkill, NY - December 11, 2007 Village of Fishkill Fire Chief Dean Scofield today announced the acquisition of vital rescue equipment obtained through a State grant secured by Senator Steve Saland.
This specialized collapse rescue equipment, which is made by Paratech Inc., will greatly help rescue firefighters trapped in building collapse incidents as well as a variety of other emergencies. Additionally, firefighters can use the equipment to rescue victims in collapsed structures and severe truck and automobile accidents. The complement of tools includes concrete breaking and cutting equipment, emergency shoring struts, high and low pressure airbags, and a supplied air cart.
Chief Scofield commented, “I would like to thank Senator Saland for being a highly respected supporter of the Fishkill Fire Department for many years. His support of our Department and Emergency Service Organizations in general shows his continual concern for firefighters and the residents of New York State. This specialized equipment, purchased through the grant secured by Senator Saland, will enhance the Village of Fishkill Fire Department's ability to respond to building collapses and technical rescue incidents, not only in Fishkill, but in other surrounding areas as requested.”
“Our local fire departments are on the front line of safety for our villages, towns and cities”, said Senator Saland. “When everyone else is running in terror from a fire or horrific accident, firefighters are running toward the danger, with one intent -- saving lives and property. This equipment will be used to help rescue trapped firefighters, as well as help firefighters extricate others who may be trapped in cars and buildings. I am extremely gratified that I was able to secure the funding for the purchase of this life saving equipment so local taxpayers will reap the benefit without the cost,” Saland concluded.
Senator Saland was honored by the Department and presented with a plaque at the Village of Fishkill Fire Department at 11:30 AM on Tuesday December 11, 2007.
